In descending order of power, the various titles held by a wide variety of English citizens, John is ‘addressing’ them all in this document, despite it not truly being written by he himself. The most important figures being addressed here are the barons, who were the authors.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This document could be the first instance in which a campaign of FREE EARL was initiated. Almost 800 years before Operation Free Earl went into effect, the multiple earls of the English feudal system were also clamoring for freedom from the oppressive powers of the King.
