You’ve been fiending, so we cooked up something special: Today we announce the release of “Genius,” our long-awaited iPhone app.
On Rap Genius, artists and their fans explore lyrics interactively via line-by-line annotations they can read, create, and edit as part of a worldwide knowledge project. Rap Genius is the brain we all share: beyond music, it is the Wikipedia of all text, including poetry, news, history, science, the Bible, fashion, and much more. The Genius app – your pocket guide to human culture – brings the Rap Genius brain to your phone.
Rap Genius co-founder Tom Lehman said:
This is the true launch of Rap Genius. Right now, more than half of our traffic comes from mobile devices. Soon, it will be 100% – In 1,000 years, when the aliens land, ‘Rap Genius’ will literally mean ‘that dope iPhone app’. This app has long been our users’ most-requested feature, and we’re pumped to finally deliver.
Genius has a lot of cool features you can’t get anywhere else. It gives you instant access to lyrics for all the songs in your iTunes library, including the song currently playing. And with Genius Recognition Technology, you can hold your phone up to music playing around you, and – SHAZAM! – Genius instantly takes you to the annotated lyrics for that song.
Download the app for free from the App Store. It makes our lives complete (and yours, too…)
