About
“The Escapist” is a hidden track attached to “Death and All His Friends,” technically making it the last song on Viva la Vida. The song was a collaboration with Jon Hopkins and was used as the credits music for the film of the same name, a British entry at the Sundance Film Festival. The Hopkins sample from “Light Through the Veins” is also used in Viva la Vida’s opening instrumental “Life in Technicolor”

Martin: Well, this is supposed to be the theme of the album, really. We’re aware of all the bad stuff in life, you know — i.e. Death and all his friends — but that doesn’t mean you should ever give in to it, you know? So we all sing that bit together really loudly, as kind of a message to ourselves: never giving up and never focusing on the bad stuff too much.
