When you put on that uniform, it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white; Asian or Latino; conservative or liberal; rich or poor; gay or straight.
Never one to shy away from tooting his own horn, especially in an election year, the President uses the words “gay or straight” here to tout the fact that he overturned the military’s long-standing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy regarding gay and lesbian soldiers, allowing them to serve openly for the first time.
