The wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.
Flight 93 was a passenger flight that was hijacked on September 11, 2001. Typically forgotten in the midst of the attack on the World Trade Center, this flight resulted in 44 fatalities, including the 4 hijackers that took over the plane. This flight was supposed to go from Newark, New Jersey to San Francisco International Airport, but was hijacked around 46 minutes into the flight. As the hijackers turned the plane around, they turned it back around in the direction of Washington D.C. Some of the passengers tried to take back control of the plane, and that resulted in a crash in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania.
The actions of those heroic citizens that attempted to regain control of the plane potentially saved thousands of lives.
