Using pine tar to get a better grip on the baseball is currently illegal (and if caught using it, one will be suspended for 10 games). Apparently, using the rosin bag doesn’t work well in cold weather. Any thoughts/opinions on this…?

As I said in News Chat, lathering the pine tar on your neck only days after being the subject of media attention about a foreign substance on your hand…

I’m pretty sure half of the pitchers use something to try to get a grip because the small seams on MLB baseballs make them so slippery.

Regardless, it’s definitely cheating and suspension worthy. Pineda is an idiot for doing it AGAIN after there was already an uproar about him using some substance last start. Such blatant cheating is ridiculous.

On the other hand it makes me mad just because Lester and Buccholz get away with it all the time…And it feels stupid seeing people get kicked when they just want a better grip in the cold weather

Last time vs the Sox it was kinda established that it’s “ok” to do. As a former pitcher, John Farell knows the deal with that stuff and let it slide. The MLB also let it slide, it was all over the media and Pineda claimed it was dirt.

But to lather it all over your neck? Wtf? Moron, should’ve put it on his belt or something. It was so obvious, something had to be said.
