How do you feel about Hansen's attempt at bringing back the Sonics?

As we all know Seattle lost the Sonics in a shady deal (note Seattle was top half of the league in attendance most of the time, prior to being sold aka Durant’s first season). And since then this guy has been trying to buy a Franchise and bring it back to Seattle (highest offers on both Kings & Bucks). Some say he’s trying to screw over cities just like Seattle was screwed, and some see him as a hero.

It’s hard to call multibillionaires “tragic” figures, but frustrated kajillionaires Steve Ballmer and Chris Hansen are the greatest owners the NBA never had. They made a shockingly lavish offer for the Kings (nearly $800 million if you added everything up)3 and the biggest offer for the Bucks (more than $600 million, from what I heard). Two committed billionaires desperately trying to bring the NBA back to a passionate market, willing to spend their own money on an arena and knowing they can fill every suite and courtside seat … and they can’t get a team? Incredible.

I think he should have been able to buy and move the Kings.

Yeah, what David Stern did to us was unforgivable. When he supposedly persuaded multiple owners already siding with Hansen, i lost all respect for him. The Kings are my adoptive team, but i also don’t think we should’ve stole their team, that would’ve stung too. But i also consider the fact that California has 4 NBA teams (Sacramento, LA [2], and Golden State). It’s whatevs, if we jack a team i hope it’s OKC. otherwise i want expansion>

April 17th, 2014

I think people will realize OKC is a bad market when they go through some losing seasons and their attendance tanks due to being in such a small town.

April 17th, 2014

OKC will be a bad market once Durant bolts for Houston ;)

But in all seriousness, Seattle deserves an NBA team. Passionate fans, great history, plus that name! Jacking the Kings would hurt their fanbase though (even though Cali doesn’t have a shortage of NBA teams), so maybe expansion could be a possibility in the future.

so maybe expansion could be a possibility in the future.

It would probably have to come with a 2nd team as well right? (to make an even 32) Is there enough talent to support another 2 teams? i mean look how thin most teams are already? anyone know of a 2nd city that could support an nba team?

April 17th, 2014

anyone know of a 2nd city that could support an nba team?

Vancouver possibly… another Canadian team but in the Western conference instead.

April 17th, 2014

thats 3 team in the northwest kinda region (vancouver, portland, seattle) interesting

April 17th, 2014

Some have suggested El Paso… but I think the Texas Triangle is fine as is. Plus, the Rockets' D-League team is in the Rio Grande Valley.

April 17th, 2014

Milwaukee probably shouldn’t have a basketball team. They haven’t been above 20th in the league in attendance since 2004. I don’t think Milwaukee cares about basketball at all. If the Bucks moved no one would care because they still got the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.

Milwaukee moves on and get to focus on what they care about…no harm, no foul

OKC keeps a basketball team that they love and support as the only show in town.

Seattle gets a franchise (which they obviously deserve), and they’ll get to prove their loyalty because they’ll be cheering for a terrible, moribound team.

Everybody wins!

The biggest market without an NBA team right now is Tampa Bay-St. Petersburg, but they sorta absorb the Magic. Seattle is the next biggest.
The next candidates include St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, etc.

People here are still pissed that the NBA robbed us. They still sell SuperSonics merch here and people buy it. You can frequently spot people rocking Sonics gear. Even old Sonics legends like Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Jack Sikma, [George Karl], and even current Thunder star Kevin Durant

I still have love for K.D, but mostly because i will always remember being so happy we drafted him. He also supports our cause, which i hand more respect to him for.

And to think i’m one of the less bitter fans here.

April 18th, 2014

EDIT: I forgot to add that said Sonics legends were all angry at OKC, with Shawn Kemp being the most supportive followed by the Glove. But i lost a little bit of respect for G.P after he was caught wearing a 49ers jersey. It still pisses me off that OKC repeatedly tries to get Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp to go to games and have their numbers retired, get courtside seats and make public appearances.

#And any other team throwin' shots at Sea-Town, you only get half a sentence, FUCK Y'ALL NIGGAS

April 18th, 2014

No doubt about it, Seattle deserves to have an NBA team.

April 18th, 2014

and doesn’t the nba try to pretend that okc records = seattle records and shit? thats fucked up

April 18th, 2014

and i think they got the pendants from the supersontic right (68 championship)

April 18th, 2014

@Barrk yes, the only thing they left was the trophy from ‘79.
