About Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara is a Canadian pop duo that was formed in Calgary by identical twins Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin. They both started playing guitar and writing songs under the name Plunk in 1997. They independently released their debut album Under Feet Like Ours in 1999 under the name “Sara and Tegan.”

The pair notably wrote all of their songs separately until their sixth studio album, Sainthood which features Paperback Head, the only song on the album co-written by the pair.

Both Tegan and Sara are openly gay, and are advocates for LGBTQ+ rights. In December 2016 they founded The Tegan And Sara Foundation, to fight for “economic justice, health and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.” In 2019, they co-authored “High School,” a tell-all memoir that recounted their coming of age being a part of queer youth in the 1990s. It would then be optioned into a TV show.
