A unique take of this Haim track: Deep house meets indie rock.

It’s fitting Haim makes enters the list this week, after a jaw dropping performance on SNL last week.

Straight Flush (not including Royals)

The odds of making this had: 72,192: 1

Five cards of the same suit in any sequence.

Remember:

  • You may use the Ace to make the “low” straight or “wheel”. This means the same suit sequence: A-2-3-4-5.

However, you cannot “turn the corner”, meaning K-A-2-3-4, that won’t count.

If two or more players have four of a kind of the same rank, the 5th card “kicker” decides.

Although this is a gnarly hand, it can be beaten in miraculous fashion.

It’s reminiscent of an earlier Bambi work, where he magically transformed a parking sign to read: Park. Oh, brother

Such a juxtaposition that is a common theme for this artist. Or to put it another way, he just keeps repeating himself.

The truck will visit different locations everyday at dusk. Bambi draws an interesting, if not all-together successful comparison between painting unused walls of buildings, and the acts of farmers of the Great Depression, who being kicked off their land by large corporations took to selling seeds illicitly.

Ronald McDonald representing Big Corporation

What you see before you is a sculpture entitled Shoe Shine dating from the of summer of 2013, depicting the powerful figure of Ronald McDonald waiting impassively as his ridiculously oversized clown shoes arp offed to a fine shine.

Ronald was adopted as the official mascot of the McDonald’s fast food corporation chain in 1966. Fiber glass versions of his likeness have been installed outside restaurants ever since. Thus, making Ronald arguably the most sculpted figure in history after Christ.

For this piece the artist has reproduced Ronald McDonald in perfect detail singlehandedly. If by perfect detail you mean roughly, and by singlehandedly, you mean with 2 people helping him. The result is a critique of the heavy labor required to sustain the polished image of a mega corporation. Is Ronald’s statue as pose indicative of how corporations have become the historical figures of our era? Does this hero have feet of clay and a massively large footprint to boot?

But, take a closer look and you may notice something familiar about this clown. His face is out of the Greek god Hermes carved by Praxiteles in 340 BC. Is this a [rye or bleak?] reference to Greek mythology? Or did the artist have such difficulty trying to sculpt the face, he simply pronged on the nearest replica bust he could find. We will never know.

whispers: It’s the second one.

These pieces were inspired by the Occupy movement that started in Wall Street in 2011. But this rendering is no banal flag waving, it has broader syntheses “Aren’t we all individuals,” it proclaims.
Well, in fact, we all think we are individuals, so it’s only people who think we’re all the same who really are individuals. Those people are weird.

Quite how exhibiting these pictures under a bridge in the heart of Gallery Row is supposed to be do anything for the 99%, we can’t be sure. Although Banksy has proved he’s clearly into recycling, given that most of his ideas follow the exact same formula. (2)

With the faltering of the Occupy movement, we’re forced to consider if all the big ideas have collapsed. But what if the idea of all the big ideas have collapsed, collapses… then where will we be? Geez This wine’s pretty strong. I’m not sure if I can do this anymore. I say hit them with the water cannon. It’s the only time these filthy idiots ever get a wash. I mean, they should occupy a bath tub maybe.

Can I get some more wine?

footnote (1)

Hip Hop veteran Talib Kweli explains this further in his verified breakdown of, Distraction.

Anytime people are willing to take their future into their own hands and attempt something is brave.

footnote (2)

The area in the west 20s, between 10th and 11th avenues, is home to the avant-garde of today’s New York art scene. Most galleries are not in storefronts but in the large spaces of multistory former garages and warehouses.

Welcome to Banky’s Better Out Than In. This is more than just another art show. Oh no, wait, that’s exactly what it is. Come in and rest a while. There’s a bench right here and over in the corner is a water cooler full of cheap wine. Please help yourself to a cup. After all, it’s an art world tradition to ignore the paintings and gossip over drinks.

Before you is a pair of paintings so painterly, you can actually see them with your eyes. This is a collaboration between Banksy and Os Gemeos (1), the street art twins from Sao Paolo who are something akin to to folk hero’s back home and (unlike another street artist I could mention), never have their work attacked by angry rivals…until now.

Footnote (1)

The Brazilan Geniuses

Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo are identical twins that often invoke lyrical creations in their work with hip hop influence (ummmm, rap geniuses?).

The hip hop culture came to Brazil and neighborhood youths began coloring ideas on the city walls. At that time, [Os Gemeos] invented their own language, painting with car paint, latex, spray nozzles and using deodorant and perfume for shaping their traits, since there were no accessories and products suitable for practice.
