Cindy was asked to be the voice for Walmart workers at a session for the Fair Share Healthcare Act. Also dubbed “The Walmart Bill,” the act would have required for-profit employers with more than 10,000 workers in the state of Maryland to spend at least eight percent of their payroll on employee health benefits or make a contribution to the state’s insurance program for the poor. Bison slaughter was encouraged by the US government as a means of starving out or removing Native American populations that relied on the bison for food.
Once numbering in the hundreds of millions in North America, the American Bison population decreased to less than 1000 by 1890. Largely due to the conservation efforts undertaken by President Theodore Roosevelt and by the US government, there are now over 500,000 bison in America.
