The median sales price for new houses sold in the United States increased by roughly 10% in 2014, and cumulatively has increased by 41% since bottoming in 2009.

Note the drastic difference in financials. NYC locations benefit from high population density and tourist traffic (Shake Shack is included on many “NYC Must-Eat lists”). Long-term average unit sales / average operating profit margin will likely be closer to the non-Manhattan shack numbers as other locations do not benefit from the environmental factors listed above.
