This is likely a a reference to a report released in February of 2013 which detailed several companies and industries that had been targeted for cyber-terrorism hacking by China; analysis clearly showed that many of the targets were companies related to the US energy grid.

The flag looks back to the dog-tags in verse one, I think, confirming that the brother’s death was a military one.

-Kathryn Bolkovac was serving on a UN mission in Bosnia, heading up United Nations International Police Force’s (UNIPF) pilot project on violence against women. Bolkovac found that several members of her own UN mission and the Bosnian police force they were training were actively engaged in sex-trafficking, sometimes even receiving free access to the women in return for passing information about raids or capturing those girls who managed to escape. Bolkovac was fired for reporting her findings.

-Mordecai Vanunu was working as a junior technician at the Dimona nuclear facility in Israel when he provided The Sunday Times with over sixty photographs that clearly showed the components of nuclear weapons, including the plutonium spheres used to trigger nuclear warheads. Vanunu was arrested by Mossad, convicted of treason, and jailed for eighteen years.

-Bradley Manning as an intelligence analyst for the US military, Manning passed classified information to WikiLeaks, which included videos of the Baghdad airstrike, Afghan and Iraq war logs, and thousands of incriminating diplomatic cables. These diplomatic cables revealed human rights violations and governmental corruption.

Case said that the song itself is about watching a young black boy shot to death in front of her in Chicago. Case was especially enraged by the lack of attention given to the shooting saying, “And, of course, it doesn’t make the news because the kid is black.”
