San Cisco are an Australian surf rock and indie pop band. Their four original members, Jordi Davieson, Josh Biondillo, Scarlett Stevens, and Nick Gardner, grouped together in 2009 in Fremantle, Western Australia under the name “King George.”

New member/longtime friend, Jennifer Aslett, joined the band in 2018 following bassist Nick’s departure. Jennifer left the next year, leaving the band as a three-piece.

In a bold move, eight major tech companies, including Google, Apple, Facebook, and Twitter, wrote an open letter to members of the US Government arguing that NSA surveillance undermines the freedom and violates the privacy of US citizens. In their newly launched website, the companies outline 5 major steps that they urge the US government to take to protect the privacy of its citizens and the free flow of information.

While still a Congressman, Senator Markey requested information on the collection of cellphone customer data by the NSA.

McAdam responded that Verizon had received 260,000 requests in 2011 alone, half of which were subpoenas. If McAdam’s estimates from 2011 hold true– that the requests for customer information have increased at a rate of 15% a year–it is likely that Verizon received almost 300,000 requests in 2012.

Long before Edward Snowden began releasing documents to news outlets detailing the extent of the US government’s surveillance programs, then Congressman Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts was requesting that cellphone carriers reveal the US government’s requests for data on their customers. Now a Senator, Markey is continuing to push carriers to reveal even more information about what information the government collects and how.
