The fall equinox typically falls on the 22nd or 23rd of September, so the evening of the 21st is right at the end of summer.

However, songwriter Allee Willis says the seasons have little to do with the date of choice here:

We went through all the dates: ‘Do you remember the first, the second, the third, the fourth … ’ and the one that just felt the best was the 21st. I constantly have people coming up to me and they get so excited to know what the significance was. And there is no significance beyond it just sang better than any of the other dates.

I learned my greatest lesson in songwriting: Never let the lyric get in the way of the groove. So … sorry!

Hart Schaffner Marx are the go-to suit makers for the Commander in Chief. Manufactured in the USA since 1887, the brand was founded by two brothers in downtown Chicago.

Obama keeps his suits dark, his shirts white, and his ties blue or red. He sticks to this regimen as a way to avoid decision fatigue. As he told Vanity Fair:

You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits. I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.

While some remain critical of Obama’s propensity to hit the green, it’s a habit that many presidents have shared. A crisp white shirt and either khaki pants or shorts complete his usual ensemble.

Before packing up for the capitol, Obama started planting roots in Chicago in 1991. After marrying Michelle in 1992, they began raising their family there. He taught at the University of Chicago Law School up until 2004, when his Senate career took off.

Though he usually doesn’t take a ton of fashion risks, there are always exceptions to the rule. When he became the first US President to visit Cambodia, he donned one of their traditional fitted shirts for the photo op. Next to Obama in blue, we see Prime Minister Hun Sen.

And let’s not forget that time he took on a tunic in Indonesia:

When he’s not fully decked out, he opts for the Dockers look – a button down and pleated khakis. Pleats are generally not a pleaser, but that hasn’t stopped the leader of the free world from diverting the flat front in favor of some folds!

An Indian textile magnate decided to celebrate his 45th birthday with an 18k gold hand-spun shirt. Pankaj Parakh commissioned twenty men on the project, who spent 3,200 hours crafting the shirt for his birthday on August 8th.

The total price tag:

$211,000

The shirt weighs almost 9 pounds! He claims to never leave the house without wearing at least 4 pounds of his favorite precious metal.

I have always been fascinated with gold since I was five-years-old and studying in school. And over the years that interest has become a real passion. So it was logical that I would want to make my 45th birthday a golden affair.

The shirt also calls for bodyguards whenever worn in public.
