About “Wide Open Spaces”

Wide Open Spaces is the fourth studio album by American country music trio the Dixie Chicks, released on January 27, 1998, via Monument Records. The album became their first under a new label, after leaving their previous record label, Crystal Clear Sound Records. The album featured three members: Martie Seidel (formerly Martie Erwin), Emily Erwin and newest member, Natalie Maines. The album was a commercial success, peaking at #1 on the Top Country Albums chart and selling thirteen million copies worldwide. The album became their first to appear on any music charts, as previous albums Thank Heavens for Dale Evans (1990), Little Ol’ Cowgirl (1992) and Shouldn’t a Told You That (1993) failed to do so.

A total of five singles were released from the album: “I Can Love You Better” on October 27, 1997, “There’s Your Trouble” on March 30, 1998, “Wide Open Spaces” on August 17, 1998, “You Were Mine” on December 7, 1998 and “Tonight the Heartache’s on Me” on April 12, 1999.
