Black Flag’s most important compilation, notwithstanding the seminal Everything Went Black, The First Four Years collects every track released before Henry Rollins became the singer of Black Flag. It thus puts together on a single album the Nervous Breakdown, Jealous Again, and Six Pack EPs, along with the “Louie Louie” single and its b-side, and two tracks released on multiple artist compilations (“Clocked In” and “Machine”). The album has aged remarkably well and presents the music that was arguably the most groundbreaking Black Flag ever put out.
