About “Caustic Window LP”

Caustic Window is an unoficially released LP by British IDM artist, Richard D. James under his Caustic Window alias.

The album was recorded from 1992-1994 and was planned for release in 1994. However, the album was cancelled and around 10 test pressings were made. It’s known that Richard owns 4 of the pressings, with other’s being gifted to Mike Paradinas, Chris Jeffs and a few anonymous friends of Richard.

Prior to 2014, the only tracks released from the LP were Phlaps, Cunt (both released on compilations) and Mumbly, which featured on Analogue Bubblebath Vol 3.

In early April 2014, a listing of Caustic Window appeared on Dsicogs with an asking price of $13,500. The user stated that he was able to confirm that it was an official print with Rephlex Records.
Over the next few days, with the help of members on the We Are The Music Makers forum and Rephlex Records, a Kickstarter campaign was started which aimed to release 500 digital copies of the album to those who backed it. It would then be put back up for sale on eBay, which was bought by Markus Pearson, creator of Minecraft, for $43,000.
