Mesmerise Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Mesmerise, symbolize everything that’s unique
Make the choice with a voice, speak within and talk away
Seems to endeavor, breach from within, beside the shallow lake of youth
Seen our reflection shine like a gem, within and serenade the view

[Chorus]
Tears fell upon the fire, fell upon desire, early in the morning
Age fell into the sea, sunset of the east, you and I are older

[Verse 2]
Paradise is alive in the conscious of the brain
Shake away and become for one hour of the day
Piece of the passage, there from before, becomes a carousel of truth
Seems all the pleasure, shine like a gem, beneath the ever-changing view

[Chorus]
Tears fell upon the fire, fell upon desire, early in the morning
Age fell into the sea, sunset of the east, you and I are older

[Bridge]
Do you say what you feel at the end of the day
In your heart

In the rain, I’ll watch it wash you away
In a heartbeat, in our heart’s beach
[Chorus]
Tears fell upon the fire, fell upon desire, early in the morning
Age fell into the sea, sunset of the east, you and I are older
Tears fell upon the fire, fell upon desire, early in the morning
Age fell into the sea, sunset of the east, you and I are older

About

Genius Annotation

The début single off Temples' first album, Sun Structures, was released on Fat Possum in the US and Heavenly Records in the UK.

James Bagshaw said that it was chosen as a single because

it’s very melodic, so I guess melody is something that assigns a single because that’s the thing that people listen to. But for us, we always found it very hard to choose singles… it might not be commercially viable, but that one sounds more catchy.

That melody is driven by Bagshaw’s almost Marr-esque lead guitar and Adam Smith’s psychedelic flourishes on keyboard. The song also has a solid rhythm section, with steady performances from Thomas Walmsey on bass guitar and Sam Toms on drums.
