2013-14 NBA Performance Analysis Lyrics

How's your favorite team really doing? Check this graph stat comparing the money and the win percentage of all NBA teams. Some interesting results came out...

Legend

Economic Performance = [(Team Salary 13/14 — Average League Salary 13/14) + (Team Salary 13/14 — Team Salary 12/13)] / 2

Win Percentage Adjusted = Win percentage 03/12/14 + (Win Percentage 03/12/14 - Projected Win Percentage)

Orange Line = Conference Average

Eastern Conference

The money wasted in New York (BRO & NY) is unbelievable when compared to their results.

• There really aren't any surprising teams in the East. Indiana had an amazing season last year, and they are in “Surprising Zone” because the money they spent was lightly lower than last season.

Milwaukee has the worst adjusted winning percentage in the league: 2.8%

Detroit, which added Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings during the offseason, is incredibly under the average of Economic Performance.

• The contrast between Brooklyn and Milwaukee reflects the reality of the conference, with some teams spending a lot of money and still being mediocre squads.

• Indiana is the league's perfect sample team, keeping the balance between money and wins.

The Bulls are almost perfectly average on the spectrum.

Brooklyn is the most disappointing team in the league.

Disappointing Eastern Teams: New York Knicks — Brooklyn Nets — Cleveland Cavaliers — Boston Celtics

Western Conference

According this stat, San Antonio Spurs are the best team in the NBA. Few investments, GREAT results.
In spite of the fact that the Lakers are approximately 20 million dollars over the league average, the exit of Dwight Howard was exponentially stronger for their Economic Performance.

Phoenix is the most surprising team in the League. Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe are two huge reasons why.

Just two teams in the West are in the “Disappointing Zone”, but Denver and Sacramento are very close. If they don’t start to win more games, it's probable they'll finish as disappointments.

Another surprise here is Portland. Solid season and unexpected position in the stats, with the second best adjusted winning percentage in the league.

Like the Pistons' situation, Pelicans are under the average with huge additions of Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans.

Disappointing Western Teams: Minnesota Timberwolves — Memphis Grizzlies
