Write how you talk
Seriously this is not hard hitting journalism. Shut up and stop trying to impress people, just do you. If it sucks, I’ll tell you to make it suck less or give you a different idea. Don’t stress over it. Always write in FIRST PERSON as if you were talking to your bff (who is female) for guides, for first looks or things in that nature write as if you were talking out loud while watching it. INCLUDE LIFE EXPERIENCES WHENEVER POSSIBLE!! Sad Girls Guide is like the readers’ bff that’s available 24/7

Always tie in RELEVANT References
Include pop culture references whenever possible. This could be anything: music, film, books, tv, whatever. Just reference something like that as much as possible. If literal POP isn’t your jam, then you can include whatever obscure references you want just hyperlink it bb. Also if you are referencing something specific do research – make sure you know what you’re talking about. It might be pop culture, but it’s still something people pay attention to if you’re wrong.
DON’T censor yourself but be NICE
Don’t be mean. Why would you ever be unnecessarily mean in general. Quit it. Swear as much as you want. Say what you feel. Do what you want. I’m not out here to change people’s opinions. HOWEVER if you are saying anything derogatory ever at all in your pieces to anyone then you are cut because that is unacceptable. If you don’t have anything to nice to say, maybe write something different. Some of SGG’s younger readers pay super close attention to everything. So be mindful of this too, like your tweets and stuff the day a post comes out not to be like tweeting about anything rude as well. YOU ARE REPRESENTING SAD GIRLS GUIDE WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO EMPOWER PEOPLE NOT MAKE THEM BUMMED OUT OR INSECURE. Why would you even wanna do that anyway??

Don't give out shitty advice

Include MEDIA
Pictures, videos, and gifs. Always. Depending on what you are working on, at least like 3 or 4, but more is perf too. If you overload it I’ll edit some out but if you don’t have any, I’m gonna be annoyed. Also people aren't going to read one giant chunk of text because that is dang boring.

Do not drone on and on and on and on
Write something that is a readable length that is broken up by media (see above). You need to have at least 6 tips and no longer than 12 tips. Don't be boring either!

Have FUN but take it SERIOUSLY
SGG is cute and fun, and while the content might not be fully serious – you should be because I am. I’m out here running this as an official thing, so you need to act like it too. Be timely, focus on your work, and don’t put any blemishes on the reputation of Sad Girls Guide ever.

COMMUNICATE
If something comes up and you can’t meet a deadline, let SGG know ahead of time. If you’re finding you arent able to do your original idea and are having trouble with it (this happens to me all the time) TELL ME, we can come up with something new for you that might work out better. If you are gonna lag and be late, you are cut. If you are gonna half ass something, you might be cut or I will annoy you with thousands of changes. HMU if you are having any issues ever. It’s not a big deal chill out.

Promote your work DUH
Don’t you want people to see your really cute awesome SGG piece? Tweet it, facebook it, tumblr it, instagram it, whatever you have – post it on there when the piece goes up. Just like how I will be doing. When you tweet it though -- CREATE YOUR OWN TWEET in addition to retweeting SGG.

okay that's basically it go ahead and pitch/submit now thank you we're out here pouting on the low~~

How to Format Lyrics:

  • Type out all lyrics, even repeating song parts like the chorus
  • Lyrics should be broken down into individual lines
  • Use section headers above different song parts like [Verse], [Chorus], etc.
  • Use italics (<i>lyric</i>) and bold (<b>lyric</b>) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song part
  • If you don’t understand a lyric, use [?]
