If You Say So Lyrics

[Verse 1]
It’s been seven whole days, seven whole days
Since you paralyzed me

Seven whole days, seven whole days
Since you lost your fight
And I can't get the last words that you said
Can't get those words out of my head

Seven whole days, seven whole days and four words

[Pre-Chorus]
And I can't get away from the burning pain, I lie awake
And the fallen hero haunts my thoughts
How could you leave me this way?

[Chorus]
It’s been seven whole days without your embrace
I wanna see your face, I got some things to say
Was just a week ago, you said, "I love you, girl"
I said, "I love you more"
And a breath, a pause, you said, "If you say so"
If you say so, if you say so

[Verse 2]
It's been seven whole days, seven whole days
Since I heard the phone ring

Seven whole days, seven whole days
Since I heard your voice
And I can't get the last words that you said
Can't get those words out of my head
It’s been seven whole days, seven whole days of pure hurt
[Pre-Chorus]
And I can't get away from the burning pain, I lie awake
And the fallen hero haunts my thoughts
How could you leave me this way?

[Chorus]
It's been seven whole days without your embrace
I wanna see your face, I got some things to say
Was just a week ago, you said, "I love you, girl"
I said, "I love you more"
Then a breath, a pause, you said, "If you say so"
If you say so, if you say so

[Bridge]
I can't believe it's true, I keep looking for you
I check my phone and wait to hear from you in a crowded room
The joker is so cruel

And now I'll never know if all I've been told is just a lie so bold
I thought we would grow old

Mirrors in the smoke left me here to choke

[Chorus]
It's been seven whole days without your embrace
I wanna see your face, I got some things to say
Was just a week ago, you said, "I love you, girl"
I said, "I love you more"
Then a breath, a pause, you said, "If you say so"
If you say so, if you say so

About

Genius Annotation

This song is about the death of Lea’s boyfriend Cory Monteith, based on the last conversation they ever had.

In an interview with Billboard in March 3, 2014, Lea disclosed her feelings about “If You Say So”:

Listening to it, it’s therapeutic and difficult. It will always represent the most devastating thing that’s every happened to me in my whole life. But at the same time, music is therapy. It’s been therapy for me in the entire grieving process and in my entire life. I’m grateful that Sia collaborated on that song with me and it’s a moment in my life… music has just been so important and so helpful to me this whole year.

What did Lea Michele say about "If You Say So"?
Genius Answer

In an interview with Billboard in March 3, 2014, Lea said, “It was important to me that the album began with "Cannonball” and ended with “If You Say So.” I have to acknowledge what I’ve been through this year. It was really difficult, which I think is represented in “If You Say So” and a song like “Cannonball” represents finding strength and hope. These are the two sides of my life right now. The grief, but also the search for strength and hope. I really wanted those two songs to bookend the album. Really let everyone know where I’m at."
