Somebody’s Girl Lyrics

[Chorus: R. Kelly]
Somebody's girl is at this party
Shakin' that ass to this
Somebody's girl is at this party
Drink that glass of Cris'
Somebody's girl is at this party
Sittin' in V.I.P
Somebody's girl is at this party
And she's comin' home with me

[Verse 3: Jay-Z]
The moral of the story if you love your bitch
You better - hold your ho, hug your bitch
You better - slow your roll, trick some bread
When she wanna go out, you like Craig and 'em said
"See ya when I see ya," now she's callin' me up
And I'm like, "Geah, of course I wanna chill"
Now she with the real, and you all fed
Like, "I'ma crack her motherfuckin' fo'head!"

[Chorus: R. Kelly]
Somebody's girl is at this party
Shakin' that ass to this
Somebody's girl is at this party
Drink that glass of Cris'
Somebody's girl is at this party
Sittin' in V.I.P
Somebody's girl is at this party
And she's comin' home with me

About

Genius Annotation

“Somebody’s Girl” is the ninth track on Jay-Z and R. Kelly’s first collaborative album, 2002’s Platinum-certified The Best of Both Worlds.

Simply, the theme of the track is that Hov and Kellz plan to go to the club just so they can take someone else’s girlfriend home. And, with all of their swagger, there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Jay-Z discussed the content of this track during an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher in August 2009. Maher quoted the lyrics of the track, wondering why listeners don’t feel “put down” when they listen, knowing that [Jay-Z] is going “to fuck her.” The quick-witted Hov humorously replied:

It’s inspirational. [They feel like they can be Jay-Z.] … And, uh, I said she’s coming home with me… I didn’t say I was going to [fuck her…] People, when you listen to that song, you put yourself in the orator’s shoes. So you’re singing it to someone else as well, and that someone is singing it to someone else, so it never really gets on anyone’s clothes…
