[Verse 1]
Seeing that your love's true
Never I'll doubt you
My heart belongs to you
That's alright with me
Worlds could end around me
So in love that I can't see
You and me were meant to be
That's alright with me
[Chorus 1]
Friends come and friends may go
My friend, you're real I know
True self you have shown
You're alright with me
Through thick and thick to thin
I'll love you 'til the end
You know it's true my friend
You're alright with me

Friends come and friends may go
My friend, you're real I know
True self you have shown
You're alright with me
Through thick and thick to thin
I'll love you 'til the end
You know it's true my friend
You're alright with me

[Post-Chorus]
Alright with me
Alright with me
Alright with me
Shoo-bee-doo-bee-doo-wah
Alright with me
Alright with me

[Verse 2]
Catch a fallin' star that shines
Make a wish clap three times
Dreams come true it's in the mind
That's alright with me
Your wish is my command
Never thought I'd fall in love again
Again with my best friend
That's alright with me

Genius Annotation

“Alright” was the fourth single released from Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. Based around a James Brown vocal sample from the Lyn Collins track “Think (About It)”, Janet delivers a funky New Jack Swing dance track about finding love with a true friend. The single peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was her fourth consecutive single to top the Dance Club Songs chart, breaking a record held by Madonna. The song was remixed several times, with one version featuring rapper Heavy D being used in the music video and released as the radio mix. (It’s this version which appears on Janet’s various greatest hits compilations.)

The music video won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video. It was created to look like a 1940s musical, with Janet and her friends wearing zoot suits and running into performers from that era, including dancing duo The Nicholas Brothers, actress/dancer Cyd Charisse, and jazz singer/bandleader Cab Calloway.
