’Til Kingdom Come Lyrics

[Intro]
(One, two)

[Verse 1]
Steal my heart and hold my tongue
I feel my time, my time has come
Let me in, unlock the door
I've never felt this way before

[Refrain]
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummer begins to drum

I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know which way I've come

[Verse 2]
Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone, someone who hears
For you, I've waited all these years

[Chorus]
For you, I'd wait till kingdom come
Until my day, my day is done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me

About

Genius Annotation

The hidden track of X&Y, “‘Til Kingdom Come” was originally intended to be a collaboration with Johnny Cash, but he died before his part could be recorded – this explains why the song has a very country vibe to it (Rihanna would later have the “honor” of being Coldplay’s first collaboration on an LP).

At its core, “‘Til Kingdom Come” is a ballad about Death coming to claim a man at the end of his life (a fitting theme given that Cash was close to death himself). When played at live performances, the band usually combine the song with Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”

Genius Answer

According to Songfacts. lead singer Chris Martin said in an interview for Rolling Stone that this links to the song “A Message“, another song of the album:

“A Message“ is taken from a hymn we used to sing called “My Song Is Love Unknown,“ and we’d say ‘kingdom come’ every week in the Lord’s Prayer. One of the great things about being forced to go to church services is that we’d sing all these big songs. That’s partly why I’m obsessed with getting everyone to sing along at our shows. It makes me feel like I’m a part of something.
