Send me a bill that bans insider trading by Members of Congress, and I will sign it tomorrow. Let’s limit any elected official from owning stocks in industries they impact.
This sudden concern with “insider trading” in Congress, which has been going on for decades, is in response to a November 2011 60 Minutes piece that made the issue public. The story revealed that members of Congress can and do “use market-moving information that they learn in congressional committees to trade on the stock market” — practices that would be illegal if done by anyone else
