A name is more than just a noun, verb, or adjective. It's your life, your legacy, your journey, sacrifices, and everything you've worked hard for every day of your life as and adolescent, young adult and adult.
Name-The name (in western cultures at least) is one legacy linking you with your past. It is passed through the generations and lasts longer than flesh and blood.
Your name is your legacy. As Dorner’s has been dragged through the mud (as seen above) he seems to think that he can redeem his name through his actions.
This idea is used as an introduction in order to set up the main premise of Dorner’s statement. He repeatedly comes back to this point throughout the manifesto
