Lennon went through relationship trouble with Ono, and their pair split in 1973, after which Lennon embarked on an 18-month “lost weekend” relationship with Ono’s friend May Pang, fuelled by drugs and alcohol.
When the pair reconciled, Lennon was mostly devoted to the family over music for the rest of his life. At the time of his murder, he was about to make his big comeback with Just Like (Starting Over).
