Your life story took a tough turn with the passing of your mother. Although we grieved with you, we never really knew how much pain you were in.
Kanye’s mother, Donda West, passed away on November 10, 2007 due to complications from cosmetic surgery. During the Glow in The Dark Tour Kanye dedicated every concert to her by performing Hey Mama and a cover of Journeys “Don’t Stop Believing”. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger passed the “Donda West Law,” a legislation which makes it mandatory for patients to provide medical clearance for elective cosmetic surgery after her death.
Donda West’s death became the inspiration to Kanye’s experimental album 808s and Heartbreak later in 2008.
Russell is correct about none of his fans or those around him knowing what kind of pain he was in, as revealed by lyrics in his recent song “Clique”, “Went through, deep depression when my momma passed/Suicide, what kinda talk is that?”
